Naval Architecture
Our Naval Architects combine a high level of academic knowledge with hands on expertise and a practical approach. Services include:
- Concept design
- Detailed design
- Preparation of tender specifications
- Double hulling and Conversion Services, including the selection of tonnage and the preparation of conversion specifications
- Heavy lift securing and loading management services
- Hull maintenance strategies and longevity assessments
- Ballast water management plans
- Emergency response services.
Service Provision
Our Naval Architecture services include the provision of technical assistance to ship owners and operators in various disciplines. These include vessel design, structural engineering, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and computational fluid dynamics.
Projects range from complete vessel design to Class Approval through to the preparation of complete detailed engineering solutions for shipyards.
We provide an extensive in service support capability including continuous assessment of vessel strength and stability, the assessment of the impact of new legislation on new and existing tonnage and trouble shooting services.
Our experts have provided expert evidence to a number of tribunals in matters relating to alleged defective ship construction, structural failure and vessel underperformance.
We undertake damage investigations, prepare repair specifications and oversee repairs on behalf of owners.
Experience
We have a highly experienced team supported by our investment in software tools. Our software suite includes:
- Hull modelling and compartment definition
- Intact and damage stability analysis and longitudinal strength
- Resistance and powering prediction
- Sea keeping analysis
- Construction and detailing package with output to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software
- Structural analysis to solve static and dynamic loading, buckling, heat transfer, natural frequency and harmonic response problems
- Emergency response software to determine damage stability and damage strength
- Risk analysis tools to assist in techno-economic appraisals and vessel size route optimisation.
